Clutter Clearing
“Clearing your clutter is an essential activity for any true earth lover. You cannot possibly feel a good, strong connection to the earth if you are constantly distracted and brought down by visual noise, dirt and general psychic gunge. Add to that, if you value the earth, you will not want to invest in lots of “stuff” – the manufacturing industry drains the earth unnecessarily of its resources and contaminates it with pollutants. Instead, you will want to keep the earth and yourself and your life clear, moving, healthy and vibrant....”

January 2011
There are certain times of year which, I feel, lend themselves to clutter clearing and now is one of those times. The new year brings an energy which can help motivate us to clear the decks for a new start. I know a lot of people have been feeling the pinch recently and have cut down or stopped their normal charitable donations so, donating any unwanted stuff to your favourite charity is a really good way of continuing to contribute and will be very much appreciated at this time. Also, once you get into it, it feels really good!
Living on the Isle of Wight, I like to give to the RSPCA. Apart from being a life-long supporter, I’m told that they do not receive funding from the mainland and all the money made by their island charity shops goes directly to supporting the island branch. I have also spent quite a lot of time there working as a volunteer, and I adopted my dog from there, so I feel confident that money raised is put to good use. Another charity I like is Age Concern (now AgeUK). I used to work with unemployed, young people and placed quite a few in work placements with Age Concern. I worked with a number of different charitable organisations then and found that they stood out to me. They cared about their staff and volunteers; I met some lovely people and I liked how they work.
I think it’s important to give to a charity that feels good to you - the better it feels, the more likely you are to want to do it, and repeat it, and really milk the good feelings for a long time to come.
